still new to the site but, i have a 2000 4.0 auto 4X4; would like to check with you about my procedure. 1. drop pan let drain change filter 2. reinstall new filter and pan. 3. fill tranny threw dipstick tube to correct level (with out starting) 4. take off tranny lines to cooler 5. start enginge 6. run and continue to fill tranny until color from the cooler changes to new red shut off engine reinstall lines , add to correct level once warmen up. please let me know if this sounds right in any way (object is to get the fluid out of the converter too ) thanks

Well I have only done the first 3 steps when doing tranny fluid changes. Except I add one more. I got o autozone, and buy one of the drainplugs that you tap the tranny pan and then install the plug. It will make future tranny fluid changes a breeze. because when you drop that pan, fluid goes everywhere! Also do not forget about a new gasket!

As for the tranny lines, I have no idea so I wont reccomend doing that. BTW how often do you change your tranny fluid? I go every 30k

this will be my first time i just purchased this 2000 it has 92,000 on it and i dont think its never been changed. thanks for the tip on a drain plug thats a good idea I will use that one. still i would like to know if that would work i dont want to screw something up though. How much would that converter hold? if its nill i wont bother

you can just remove the line that pumps out of the tranny, to change the fluid in the TC, that is the way a lot of quick oil change places do a trans flush ! and you pay $60 or more for it !

if I pull just one line off and start the truck pour new fluid and watch for color change will this be the correct procedure?
