I don't think it would be too difficult to put together. the disk does not need to be very large due to the torque multiplication you will get with it being on the driveshaft (depending what axle gears you have). mounting the disk should also not be a problem as you have a flange that the driveshaft bolts up to. The caliper mount should also not be much of a problem, there's all kinds of bolts on the back of the t/case. If you used a caliper that holds the shoes it would simplify things (ie. late eighties early nineties gm rear calipers), it would also give you the option of mechanical or hydraulic operation, (yes you can get hydraulic handbrake handles). I've seen it done on a sammy many years ago but I don't remember much about the installation.
As a side note, point of interest, many lawn tractors that have a transaxle use a disk brake on the transmission that rotates many times faster than the drive wheels, and are quite efective if correctly adjusted, and the disk is only three inches in diameter.
