Ive been trying to replace my valve body gaskets. Immediatly I thought something was off when I dropped the pan and calve body, and yet, the transmission fluid in the filler tube didn't drop a centimeter. I've completed the work....and it never once changed. Its still full. Plenty of fluid drained out from underneath....just not from that high in the system. Now, I'm done, bolted up, and can't refill the dang thing because the filler neck is still full. Can't shift without fluid, and can't even tell if I've done it all correctly!

Please help! I need to get to the airport!!!

Engine needs to be running to check fluid level. Also if there is already fluid back in the pan (from back draining) you need to start the engine to suck up what’s there. You will hear a dry suction sound from the dipstick hole (especially if there is a funnel in it) when it has sucked everything out of the pan, try not to let it get this dry!

Go ahead and add a couple of quarts right after you start the engine, to make up for the fluid you drained by pulling the pan.

Should be like 3-3.5 quarts total so do the 2 and keep adding half a quart until you get it about 1/4” below full. (It’s supposed to be measured when the transmission is hot, hence trying to fill it a little less than full).

There is zero fluid in the pan, I just put it on. It was off,for 3 days while I found the right gaskets. Turning engine on made no difference in the full fill tube

I'm currently dripping it in through the dipstick pipe

Then something is blocking the dipstick tube as it goes straight into the pan. Either that or the fluid is being blocked because air can’t “gulp” out. Tried pulling the funnel up a little to allow air to burp?

Are you sure you have the right dipstick?

Yes. I have. Must be a block of some kind then. Jesus...

It's one of those questions I have to ask. I've seen far too many smart people do too many stupid things.

Like the time I couldn't get any air or brake fluid out of my bleeder because the factory trained and certified tech helping me bleed the brakes was pumping the clutch.

I got this ranger from my grandfather a year ago. Since then it has cost me over $8,000 and it looks like my,second opportunity to go home. I think its time for a fire. You'd think I wouldnt have these problems after dripping 5k on a newer engine

Thanks for your help anyway

Yeah. I hear ya. I just lost 4 amplifiers before I found the problem. New engine wasn't grounded. Dealership. And the OTHER dealership misdiagnosed a bad fuel injector as my,needing a new transmission last year. Another shop performed a tune up.....and forgot to add fluids afterwards. Why I was trying to do this myself.

Christ, but I need out of Alabama. The job wasn't worth dealing with these idiots. Yesterday at macdonalds I had to take back my money from the cashier and count it for him....at his request. It was $1.22 ...seriously.....

Or last month a lady SWORE her daughter went to the same college I did at the same time so we must know each other. I asked her half a dozen times if she was sure her daughter went to Virginia Tech. She was positive. Turns out....girl had taken hair braiding at Virginia COLLEGE. You Cant make this crap up

It's kind of sad see what you're saying but also kind of sad that you kept going when you knew the fluid wasn't draining down.

Boats cars and trucks are money pits can't ever expect to get your money back, unless you look at it as what it cost you to drive it and use it.

This is why I buy the oldest, cheapest stuff I can find with a body in good shape and just drive it until the wheels fall off.

I have less than $2500 invested in the purchase of my current flee of 4 vehicles.

About the same here, but I kind of put more money into everything because I like to fix and restore things, cars and trucks are not the top of the list either.

1934 baby grand I got for almost nothing that was being used as a paint table in the garage, put 3500 into it sold it for 2200, after almost 10 years.
23 foot sailboat bought for 2200, kept less than a year sold for 3300, 30 ft sailboat, bought for 18 had it for almost 10 years sold it for 9000.
Lol I'm a fruitcake over this restoration stuff but it makes me happy.
Of course, there was my 93, 4. 0 4wd bought for 2800 probably put 3-5 into it, sold it for 2200.
Now it's this 94 Super Cab that I really really like but the more I look at the rusty frame underneath the more it I doubt my sanity, I got this one basically for a set of new tires, because he m5od went bad on him.
