Well it finally happened...unexpectedly I might add....

I blew the engine in my truck today....such a sad day.

We are all completely baffled because the trucks ran great, no sign of anything. I keep it heavily maintained always check the oil, and yet I now have a rod sticking out of my oil pan

I was on my way home from work and everything was fine. Stopped at a red light, took off like normal. Ran the rpms a little up in 1st since I was on a hill and I'm on 33s and haven't got gears yet. Ran it up to a measily 3300 rpm bout to shift to 2nd. And I start to hear this god awful racket coming from the engine. At the same time smoke just starts filling up the cab from the firewall. I didn't know what to think. Just as I was pulling into a parking lot a few seconds later I heard and loud bang and that was it, truck died, engine siezed. Got underneath and saw the oil just pouring out from the hole in the pan.....

I'm still just completely baffled at what caused this to happen.

But the only good new is....I get to put that 331 set up in sooner than I thought :icon_thumby:

positive attitude,i like that in people.sorry about the truck, that just stinks.

how many miles, what engine, what oil, what additives if any?

331?rock on!

Yeah I was wondering that too....

Engine, miles, etc.

On the upside, these engines are easy to find and really not that hard to work on.

Edit...if this is the mazda B2500...they aren't too bad to work on, but I would be interested to know what caused the failure. Those are pretty hardy motors.

Oh that just sucks, buddy. A 331, eh? Talk to Baddad. As far as I'm concerned he's the king of 302 stroker motors. Glad to hear you only went out to 331 and not 347. The 347 is a great motor but a little fragile because of where the oil rings end up. But I digress... You'll have to get pics of the carnage for us. Good luck with the buildup BTW.

So what will it be? a costly rebuild or a replacement motor?

Well the truck is a 1998 Mazda B2500.
It's about 127xxx miles
Oil is Castrol 10w-40.
Oil is always changed every 2500 miles

Never used an additives or anything, never had to nor wanted to.

I'm wondering what the problem was to. I'm really not in any rush at all to tear it apart since it probabaly won't be til this summer when I get everything gathered up for the 331 swap. Gotta get the T5 and 8.8" as well. I'm sure when I get bored one of these days I'm gonna start tearing it down. Once i find the prob I'll post up some pics. Hell I might start this weekend cuz like I said I'm completely baffled, so I'm curious what it was.

But ya I thought I wanted a 302. and since I'm planning to turn the truck into a Baja style prerunner I figured why not add more kick to it lol. A good friend of mine just opened his race shop and we are going to do the build there. He has built quite a few 302, stroked out and what not. Mostly just for his drag Mustangs. So the engine I'm getting taken care so to speak. It's just the dropping in I'm worried about. Only thing I'm still pondering is to go carbuerated or fuel injected. I really like the less hassle of F/I and the performance on inclines. But then I also like the less mess of wiring and easy of working on a carb motor. Plus I've been hearing some really good things about the new Holley Truck Avenger carb.
