I'm buying a 97 2wd Ranger with a 4.0 automatic, does anyone know the towing capacity on this truck? Thanks.

Roughly 5000 lb. with the proper hitch.

You can tow whatever you hook to it (well maybe not quite). Its stopping that presents the problem.:D My advice is to invest in a good hitch (Reese setup), keep your brakes in tip top shape, and if towing really heavy loads use a trailer equipped with brakes. You would have to install a controller for trailer brakes though.

Not to derail this thread, Johnny O the website you got your avatar from is awesome! Those guys can manipulate the scammers into doing some crazy stuff!

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the information, I'm going to use it to pull a camper, but wasn't sure how much it would safely tow.

Also know that towing laws vary by state. Some states require brakes on trailers over 1500 lb. and pretty much every state does for trailers over 2000 lb.
