I know this has been done before but has anyone ever towed anything with 2.3L ranger with a 3.45 rear axle ratio? If so how was the experience? I thinking about hauling a zero turn mower with mine on a trailer(obviously) and wondering if this is feasible.

There was one man when i looked up hauled a duster from Calgary* to San Fran and he had little trouble.

Unless your trailer is ridiculously huge I doubt this would be an issue.

Also, tire size plays a HUGE roll in the trucks ability to apply power to the ground. Also also, manual or automatic?

I haul my vehicles around on a tow dolly with my Ranger all the time with a 4 cylinder. Albeit mine's geared a little on the steep side.

Think a mower on a small trailer would be fine....^^^ like he said tho, anything big wouldn't work very well

Manual, so i can keep rpm's higher.
Look in your inside door if it is axle "85" it is the same.
The zero-turn and trailer is about 1000lbs

My axle and tire size aren't stock.

The original tire size I had was a 225/70R14 I do believe, with a 3.73 ratio. I've since upped the tire size to 235/75R15 and geared all the way down to 4.56.

But I've seen Rangers come with as small as a 185/75R14 tire from the factory. In which case 3.45 gears might be somewhat spritely.

I wanted to do that but to seems like a waste of money because i might be buying a 70s f-150 beater for the summer

Funny, mine on the rear aren't stock either. The door sticker says they need to be 195/75R14's on those steel wheels with which it came. I managed to find a pair of them through the local free cycle group.
