I just read in the Tech Transfer case section you can tow your vehicle at hiway speeds for extended distances with out disconnecting either drive line.
The article discusses both manual and electric but does not differentiate
Thats not what I've been told...anybody know for sure?:icon_confused:

I haven't read the article but I'm guessing the rest of it is that you need to put the transfer case in neutral. Easy enough in a manually shifted 1354 but on the electric shift you need to remove the shift motor and do it manually from below the vehicle. Search for "Shiftster" for an easier method of doing it for electric shift tcases: http://theshiftster.com/

T-case in neutral = safe to tow at highway speeds for any distance. edit; for the ranger base vehicles bw1350 and bw1354 - I'm not sure of other TC's
Maybe shiftster has changed their design but I had to drill a hole [depression] in mine for neutral. It wasn't hard. I do recommend the shiftster, it's a well made unit.

Interesting gizmo.. I have 3:73's and quite often I use 4wd lo to tow a loaded atv trailer [ usually 2 atv's] up a hill or exploring looking for sheds[antlers] and need 4wd to go thru a muddy stretch of road not too practical for me I don't think.
Eventually I'll find a manual bw1354 and change em out.
Thanks for the recommendation and all your input.:icon_cheers:

Shiftster is a waste of money. Just pull the motor off and use vice grips.

Unless your motor is actually broken ^this. The shifster is certainly reliable, but if you use the truck with 4x4 a lot I can see where it'd get really inconvenient. Especially on a stock vehicle with less ground clearance.

Wasn't there some sort of electrical whiz-bang that tricked the motor into stopping when it reached the neutral position?
