Just wondering if I could get away with towing my Sammy wheeler (mostly stock weight) on a small trailer with my 2.3L Ranger. I'm not expecting to, but I thought I'd ask.

Towing & the 2.3 dont easily mix. If it was your Snapper on a trailer, than I'd say you're golden!

Samurai? Nope. not gonna happen, unless you want a srving of fried cluch.

DO IT...take a video AND POST THAT ON YOU TUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

seriously DO IT

It can do it. Just don't expect to get any where fast. And don't use OD or 5th gear.

i second that. the new DOHC 2.3s are strong little engines, not like the 2.3 of the 2nd and 3rd generation rangers we're used to, know what i'm saying?

I personally would not do it. If you do choose to do so you will want at least 4.10 gears and working trailer brakes. Depending on the trailer, I would want at least a fullsize 1/2 ton pickup to do what you're proposing.

Hey now, I've pulled lots of shit with my 96. No complaints :D

Don't be hatin' the 2nd gen 2.3l. lol. I had one, towed a single axle rig out of the snow with it along with MANY MANY ditched cars, full loader bucket of gravel in the box(dragging the mud flaps) and pulled the roots of a 20ft. cedar tree out with it. when i sold it, it back in 2006, it had about 400,000kms on it and it's still on the road today.

LONG LIVE THE 2ND GEN!!! lol :yahoo:

Love my 2.3 Twinspark Lima. With 4.10 gears in the rear end, she pulls like crazy. I've yanked out stumps and srubs with mine too. I guess in my case the engine does have "stump pulling torque."

On the downside, my clutch didn't appeciate it, even if my friends did.

i'm not hating!!! my old '97 had the lima 2.3 and goddam did i love that little inline 4. i yanked out my fair share of stumps and trees with it, too. even pulled a double jet ski trailer with it plenty of miles. but, boy oh boy, do i love the 4.0 i've got now instead of it.
