My truck just dyno'd at over 500ft. Lbs. With my 39.5's and clutch slips bad now (stock clutch. I knew it was coming. Held for a little while though. Offroad kills it though.) So my question is what do you guys recommend for a clutch. I was thinkin centerforce df but i dont know if that will be enough. Thanks

I would go with centerforce df, as its 90% over stock holding. I would also go with a new flywheel as well :icon_thumby:

Where's your build thread? I want to check out your PSC steering system as I'm thinking of using them...

I would have to say centerforce, that's what I used to run on my 396W/ZF combo. I would fab a trans tunnel shield though. I had a clutch explode. It didn't go though the trans or floor thankfully but it's enough to scare you. Centerfoce replaced it no questions asked but it still can happen. Honestly I don't know how well that ZF will hold up, the best one you will be able to use is only rated at 470ft/lbs. I dynoed 520 ft lbs and it was a miracle the thing didn't explode, being a light truck is all i can think made it live. Reguadless of clutch you get keep it out of water. When i pulled the engine a little bit ago the clutch was smoked from mud and water as well as had heat cracks all over the flywheel. That reason alone is making me build a C6. Good looking truck keep us updated.

IMO, a lot of manuals will hold up with quite a bit more than rated torque. The NV3500 in my Dakota is rated at 300ft/lbs, it has 222k miles it, 43k of which behind a boost motor, the previous setup for 36k had about 430ft/lbs at the crank and the current setup is likely around 500ft/lbs. Of course if you strap a few thousand pounds behind it and give it hell it may be a different story.

That said, you may also check out Spec clutches and McLeod, they both have a few options.

I'll agree to a certain point. Any drive connection will have a service factor, a combustion driven gear system will have a 2.0 to 2.75 factor designed into the gears alone from the start. That factor doesn't mean it's good to push between 650-800hp through it because of that rating; it's there for shock load. My experience with the ZF5 is mixed, it's great to a point beyond that line not so good. I after the clutch exploded and watched two others kill ZF5s I never ran that engine full tilt again. A light truck with a 1 ton transmission is some insurance but not guranteed; good clutch or not. Other than that one time I had good luck with the Centerforce DF until it got wet, after that it's garbage. That being said if you are going to be in mud/water deep enough to get to the clutch now would be the time to really rethink a manual. I had about $600 in a good flywheel and the clutch. Not trying to dis you or sway what you are building just a been there done that kinda thing that I spent a lot of money on when I should have run an automatic from the start.

I read a review on a RAM Automotive clutch recently. I tried to find the review (it was a magazine) but can't find it. Anyway, it said it was capable of handling nearly 600 ft. lbs of torque. Here it is:

EDIT: Here are some exact specs on the clutch. I was searching for a King Cobra clutch that has a better disc, and this is what I turned up. I have the King Cobra pressure plate on my Mustang. Very very nice. It has less pedal effort than factory, which I like. I would upgrade your flywheel as well.

The Clutch that is included is capable of 650HP @ 550 Ft. Lbs. of Torque. This Clutch does not feature Fabric Material on Clutch Disc. It is a 6-Puck Ceramic Flywheel and Pressure Plate Side. The Pressure Plate used is a King Cobra Pressure Plate, with a H/D Steel Throwout Bearing.
