Tottalled my F150 :(

That is a whitetail deer, hitting one is kind of a right of passage for a midwesterner. Normally it is just a little bit of front end damage... unless the jump at the last minute and land in your lap like that one did to a Durango (or gets thrown at you by a semi)

thats why i have deer catchers on all my trucks :icon_twisted:

Man, those are some ugly incedents. On the fire dept last summer I saw quite a few wrecks caused by aimals, but only a couple come to mind that are anything similar to those.

Im gonna miss that F150.

Good thing is it had full coverage, and i still owed 3600, but if you ever seen a picture of the truck it was well worth that.

But on the plus side it gives me an excuse to start looking for another truck. I want either a nice late 70's 1/2ton 4x4 or a mid 90's powerstoke.

Dustin

My vote goes to the powerstroke. So much torque

I was driving Northern Ontario. Loads of moose, deer, wolves, and other wildlife. You either have rock face or forest to swerve in to. I'll take the animal and let the Freightshaker or Volvo take the hit.

Then again, I've seen a turnpike double on the prairies smoke a wolf at 100 kph. Never swerved or hit the brakes. Just kept on keeping on. Talk about seeing the pink mist. LOL

yeah and if I didn't have a median to go into I would hit the animal aswell. but given the choice between between the animal and the median...... the median is softer and does less damage (if you keep it up right)

Yeah there is the problem. Lots of the medians up here for some reason seem to have a nice angle to them. Just enough to not do anything to a car but, a 40 ton truck with a high COG it's perfect to land them on their side or worse. I don't know who designs those things but they really need to think about it a bit longer. The US ones are fairly flat in most of the areas I've run so then the centre is a good option.

Rusty: I have an '02 psd for sale if you want it.

When I hit mine, it barely dented my bumper and spun around and caught the back of my wheel well.

I have a grille gaurd now, but would have done nothing for that particular hit. The main reason it to possibly limit radiator/headlight damage for the next go around... plus I have lights mounted on it that triple my highbeam range when I am all by my lonesome on the highway.

you know what ....... those cheap little deer whistlers work, they really do...... when I would see dear gathering near the road I would blast my air horn ..... the would run anywhere but the road..... never flash your lights at an animal.... they are more afraid of the shadows flickering behind them than they are of the headlights coming towards them....... never blast your horn at a moose ..... that will just piss it off........ never blast your horn at a mountain lion in the middle of the road ...... they just stare at you, its creepy.

I do a strobe type thing with my flash to pass lights if no one is around at night... otherwise they will just stand there and watch you run them over.

When I come up on one they are almost always just staring at me, if I burn their retina's with my strobe action they almost always make a bee line for somewhere other than where they are at.

I honk my horn too if I have time, my overall goal is to make my truck so strange and annoying they get scared and just plain leave... which for some reason is much easier to do when you want to shoot one.

I did nothing but wham on the brakes when I hit the one I have hit because it happened so fast and there were other cars around, it ran ran across the other lane, saw me and then turned to run beside me and eventually started to outrun my skidding truck, then it swerved to the right and cut me off.

My brother had one do the same thing, but it was daylight so he could see it coming. Some quick thinking of how it turned out when I slowed down lead him to do the opposite. He dropped the hammer and as soon has his truck downshifted twice and the dualed 4.6 was getting verbal, the deer veered off of the road and almost ran into a fence trying to get away.

me and my dad were heading towards vail from georga pass here in colorado. we had been wheeling all day and its like 4am. we had his tj's highbeems and his hella 500's on; we both saw the deer and moved from the right of the road to the left to avoid the dear. one ran down the hill the other ran right toward the side. my dad locked the tires in a panic stop smash right into the right front wheel. the deer did a 540 on its side along the gravel. got up and all i could see was meat. he stumbled off the hill and im guessing he died lol

I found one...

Its a 1997 Ford F250 Ext cab long box HD wiht a 7.3L and an automatic. Not a rust spot on the thing, clean as a whistle, it has a dent on the tailgate and 2 small dings on the hood. 149K, new tires, front end align, etc etc. 4x4 is perfect and has manual hubs.

8500 to steep?

Dustin

In my area it books for $9200 (dealer) and $7600 (private.)

Those whistles do work. We live in the woods and there is a creek that follows the road for three miles of the 12 mile drive to town. I have to shove deer out of the way just to get to my car in the morning. State Farm gave us the whistles 12 years ago when we moved here and we've had many close calls, but no hits. The deer stand on the side of the road and wait for us to zoom past.

That's probably a good price Dustin. But you don't like diesels and you don't like autos. Don't put yourself through it.

I remember probably about 8 years ago my dad ran into a deer with his 1990 Ranger. It was daytime and he slammed on the brakes. I think all it did was tear off the plastic grill and maybe broke a light. After that I shuddered whenever I was with someone and they hit the brakes harder than normal. I was quite afraid of deer for a while after it. But I was like 8 or 9 then...I wish we still had that truck, it was comfortable to sit in.
