You need to take the attitude truck drivers have to have. You don't swerve unless there are little kids to hit.
A dog is no where worth totaling a truck and risking YOUR life for. It is a dog, that's it. My first trainer was the one that got me into the habit of "unless it's a little kid, you DON'T swerve. Hit your brakes and slow down as much as you can safely". He was one of the safety officers at that company too. His one rule during the 2 - 3 weeks of training (in cab) was "Scratch my truck and you fail!". Pretty straight forward rule, he taught me A LOT about not only how to handle a 40+ ton rig but, also daily defensive driving. So much so that my wife scares the heck out of me when she drives. LOL
Glad to hear that you are safe and unscathed too.
Exactly. I won't swerve for anything. You never know what you may hit by swerving, or worse.
My trainer told me the same thing. No matter what's in the road you just hit the brakes and prepare for the impact.
Too bad about the truck. In NY the owners would be liable.
