My credo
Work hard and play harder
Is this doable? I know that any thing possible with time and money. How much of a pain in the ass in this? What all is involved as well? Possibly going to do this to have better lift options.

I am not looking to do a 4x4 conversion yet. My only real question is the principles the same for non 4x4?

wait what are you trying to do? you said torsion bar to ifs, but the torsion bar front suspension is a form of ifs (aka independent front suspension).

im confused as hell as what you want to do. do you want to take the torsion bar set up and put in the older style ranger front suspension??

He wants to run coils on his truck instead of torsion bars. easiest way would be to weld some tabs on the lower control arms and a shock hoop and throw in some coilovers. You can box the LCA for strength too.

Just coil-over the thing.

If you've got torsion bars, you've got IFS. And of the Ranger's, it's the one that's actually considered IFS. IFS via control arms. The other form of IFS on rangers still is a form of IFS, it's just more popularly referred to as TTB.

Original Poster.....what do you want to do? Get rid of torsion bars? Run coils? Coil-overs?

Agreed, slap in some coilovers, reinforce the LCA and call it a day.

Sidenote: Only thing that needs reinforcing is the upper shock mount to support the weight of the vehicle. You can just bolt on a bracket on the LCA...it's strong enough.

Should become popular soon.... You can actually buy brackets for the coil-overs now from a member at R-F. The hardest part is getting the right sizes coil-overs for a stock truck. A growing in popularity thing is do the Coil-over conversion on a Superlifted truck....two local guys to me have done it(totally jealous BTW) and there's supposed to be a few stock guys doing it soon on the interwebs over at R-F. Guys that are superlifted, used to be able to just buy the same c-o brackets from RCD that they include in their kit, use their coil-overs or coil-overs with the same specs, and BAM! C-O'd SL'd ranger! Unfortunately, the only way to get those RCD brackets now is if you prove you've got a defective part on your RCD kit.

Reason it probably isn't very popular yet: about $400 in coil-overs and an additional $130 for coils. One of the reasons the RCD kit was so expensive: coil-over lift.

After driving two coil-overed Rangers, the ride CANNOT be beat.

I want to go from a t bar setup to a coil setup so I have more options on lifts mainly. I can find coil setups all day long but hardly anything for t bar.

Spindles and that's it. Or a long travel kit. Or bodylift it. Or just go all out and do a 2wd Cherokee SAS.

Go coil-over. The 98+ coil frame and 98+ torsion bar frame are COMPLETELY different from eachother. After bodylift, spindles, and torsion keys(bad idea!), and 35's, you're as tall as you can go. After that, it's SAS time.
