I am swapping trannys in my '83 ranger. What seals or gaskets should I replace in the new tranny? Is there any general mantainence I should do besides replacing the filter and fluid? Also, when installing the torque converter, do I need to fill it with tranny fluid, or does it fill up when I fill the tranny?

Thanks

Replace the front and rear seals.
Put some fluid in the converter. Don't fill it with the converter laying down.

VERY IMPORTANT;
When installing the converter back on the trans, turn it as you push in. The converter has to engage the pump, and shaft splines. As you turn it, you will feel it go back further. You should hear two "clunks" and the converter face will be behind the outer edge of the trans housing and very little room behind the converter when it is correctly installed.

If you do not do this, you will break things when you secure the bolts. shady
