2 questions i have a 2002 ranger w/ 5r55e I pulled the motor and tranny out, and am begging to put it all back in, and back together, only thing im not sure on is, do the nuts that came off the torque converter need to be replaced? if so are they anything special or can i use some grade 8 nuts.

also what is the oil capacity of the torque converter. 1/2 quart?

been doing more research still cant find the info im looking for, i may just be using the wrong terminology. I need help with this as the tranny will probably be going back into the truck tonight. i need it back in there asap.

How do i make sure that there is atleast sufficient fluid in the TC so it doesnt burn up right off the bat.

I would fill the tc until the fluid starts coming out, tc in a vertical position while checking fluid. Go to a specialty nut and bolt warehouse with one of the ones you have and see what they have. EG; There's 4 such places I know of in Red Deer, pop.80,000. It's probably a metric, flanged, crimped nut which are grade 8. If your really broke, use lock tight on clean threads.
Good luck,

Richard

Thank you! the reason i asked about the bots is becuase it was relly hard not to strip them out, 1 of them did end up stripping.

is it posiible to over fill the TC?

I have never replaced those nuts unless they are bad. Locktite them and done. Unless you have a brand new converter that was never tested no real need to fill it either. If you stripped a nut find a grade 5 or higher replacement. A shouldered one would be best. If you stripped the stud the converter is junk.

ok guys so its finally time to get the tranny into the truck, and bang connt get the TC to seat for the life of me spent 2 days trying to seat this damn thing in there. i pull the bell housing off and the input shaft (smaller shaft) will not come out of the transmission. i really need some help here. it really feels like the clutch and gears and all that will slide out of the transmission. can all this ome out? if i slide these companents out will they have to be realigned or anything, the only thing i can think of to get the shaft out is to pull out everything then seperate them. ideas?

simplified version: i took the bellhousing off and i cannot get the input shaft out of the drum. can i take the drum out of the trasnmission to remove the input shaft without serious consequences?

Did you tear the pump off the bellhousing at all? That needs aligned. The input should slide out. If you pull the rest of the drums out you will need to be sure you reseat all the clutches over the splines by turning the drums. Be sure the are all down. Really you should have the valvebody off to be sure you have thrust being you seem new at this. Something is wrong if that shaft is stuck.

yea i dont really know crap about auto transmissions. pump was not removed from the bellbousing. i just cant seem to get that damn shaft out. its my fault i think i forced it in there.

The splines in the output shaft were completely jacked. Got the bell housing off, swapped out the out put shaft and it could have gone smoother from there
