Topper boot.

Have a situation where I may want or even need to put a boot between my cab and topper. This is an above the cab topper with an 8" high nose that sicks out over the Ranger super cab a little over two feet.

To the best of my knowledge I have three choices. The inflatable doughnut between the two sliding windows. Works, but not great for getting heat / AC between them. Then comes the two boots. A single side that presses up against the cab window, still only the small slider on the truck and not much of an improvement over the doughnut. And finally the full boot. Both topper and cab windows out with the boot all the way around.

The last is the most expensive, but to my mind also the most desirable for heat, AC , and bodies to get through. Can anbybody talk to the plus and minus of the full boot? On the other end, can the doughnut be made to work as long as you don't expect my fat ass to crawl through that skinny window?

I would just run another heater.

They make the window small on purpose to prevent people from breaking into your vehicle through the rear window slider. For rear vision, a full boot would be best if you want to leave it on all the time. If only part time, an inflatable might be the best compromise.

Like Bobby said, running a separate heater in the bed is probably going to be the most effective solution.

Full boot would also require a pretty high level of commitment.

If you want to use the truck without the camper... you're putting glass back in.

In that case....cut it right out for easy access and run a heater and ac back there

Even with removing the rear window, you might want to setup a separate heating system back there. Especially if it's going to be a camping setup where you will be in there with the engine off. If it's not going to be a camping thing, then maybe a remote heater that taps into the coolant system of the truck. No idea what one of those would cost and you would need to run hoses and electric back there for the fan to blow the heat out of the unit. Bed caps are not air tight and there won't be any insulation back there. So, I'm not confident the stock heater will be enough.

I'm leaning toward the full boot and was leery of unknown problems. So far I haven't heard of any real problems, just some logistics to overcome. A good sign for me.
