I was driving to church this past weekend and leaving my (new gf's house) I decided to wind out my 2004 4x4 ext cab 5spd manual......
what a dissapointment!!!! 92mph and it cuts out :annoyed:
Is there a programmer out there that is not as expensive as the "so-called" performance ones to let me really wrap her out? btw in 5th at 92 I'm only at about 3,600 rpms.

And then..... i like to think I'm pretty good at burnouts....... car truck, auto manual.
It would appear my clutch will not hold a 2nd gear launch....... or burnout.
any advice on this? or method that I may be missing? (i generally dump the clutch then get on the brake and gas)
the engine seems to lock down at 1,200 rpms and the clutch smokes.

sooo........ is there a clutch for my truck that will do what I want? perhaps a dual disk (not dual friction) clutch?
or a sled-pulling one?

Other than these two issues, I love the way my truck runs.....

btw... it seems to be rpm limited to 5,200 or so, how much higher can I program it to safely? it's a 6 banger..... it should be cracking at least a grand higher IMO.

Your speedometer is miscalibrated, the fun limiter turns the engine down
at 89mph, not 92mph.

Well, that's discusting!!!

It really makes me feel inadequate around the s-10's my buddy owns that can smoke tires, and run 95.

HI!... My 2007 RANGER SPORT, 4.0L, AUTO had a top speed limiter of 98MPH. Just get yourself a tuner. I got a SCT X-CAL2 and just removed the speed limiter. Been up to 205KPH +. Just make sure your tires are speed rated for those speeds.

I have no problems doing burnouts..... lol!

^^I too have no problem doing burnouts and powerbrakes, locker and sticky ass 35's even!

You've got a BL on that truck.....I assume you've got larger tires. Sorry, but I also assume you don't have a gear change.....you just don't have the right gearing for a 2nd gear burnout. NO Ranger I've driven, even properly geared can pull off a 2nd gear launch. Only thing close would be something 8 cylinders. SHIT I couldn't do it when I put 27's on my truck w/ 4.10's. Although, I do start out in 3rd when I'm in 2Lo.

Xcal2 or a tuner will get rid of the limiter, but why are you even attempting to reach the limiter on the streets?

Allan....my stock '01 with stock tires and stock everything was limited to 92/92. Confirmed with the scangauge and gps as well..... My speed limiter kicks in at 86 now. Thank you 4.88's and 35's.....speedo reading 104% faster than I actually am going. lol.

So they don't make any clutches that will hold a 2nd gear launch for these trucks?

I've got 4.10's and stock'ish tires currently.
I can roast the tires off in first, but it doesn't let them spin fast enough to be burnout contest worthy........

And yes I want my truck to go much much faster on the street.
I just figured since the so-called programmers don't get good reviews on power and economy I could just zap that without wasting 400 dollars.

doesnt sound like the clutch is the problem, need more gear to keep it in the power band of the six when dumping in second. its pretty hard on the tranny though in second.

Sounds like your driving a ranger mid-size overweight underpowered truck not a mustang. No offense ranger.

Sounds like you need to invest in a sports car.

Sounds more like I made a post about a year ago that should have never been revived.

really? though 1 mph isnt a noticable difference mine cuts off right at 90. according to the gps i have anyway it was on the nose, as soon as the gps said 90 the engine started to cut off to keep it there.

Funny thing i found out, the cruise control isnt limited at 90, but the truck is. So you can actually turn the cruise up to the piont where the pedal is to the floor but the truck itself wont let it go past 90. i tried to see if it would go faster if you used the cruise control becuase a friend of mine said his dads truck would shut off around 90-100. but you could make the truck go faster by using the cruise control lol

1. WHy are you trying to do a burnout in a v6 in second gear? First is the best way to break em loose. Second you can get a chip made by Superchips, not SCT. ITs cheaper than hell and will remove your rev limited and top speed limiter. Even in my mustangs I had a hard time power braking a manual, the v6's just didnt have the torque. But you should be able to wheel spin on take of slick as oil and power sliding should come easy too.

I can burnout rather well in my '96 4.0L, 5spd 3.08 gears 225/70R14 stock size tires. My top speed limiter also doesn't kick in until around 110mph. This has been confirmed by GPS too, running right about 3,900-4,000rpm if memory serves. Been a long time since I've taken it up that high.

Need first gear to get a burnout going, but it smokes like hell once it gets wound up.
