Howdy all,
I had a craiglist score today. I picked up a black powder coated diamond plate took box (Dee Zee brand) for $40. It's in good condition, no dents, but the top of the lid's paint is chipping like crazy. Any good ideas on how to make it look good? How would one paint it? I wouldn't even mind stripping the powder coating off the whole box and polishing the aluminum if possible....So...any idears?

strip it and paint it. spray gun is best. sand it good and maybe clear it when you are done.

How would i go about stripping it...paint thinner? Thanks!

Don't sand blast, it warps the metal. Get an orbital power sander and sand it down good. The problem with a paint stripper is that it chemically removes the pain and leaves a smooth surface that won't have any better mechanical adhesion properties than it does now. Poor mechanical adhesion is the #1 reason for paint chipping. Sand it until it looks dull and scratched, then paint over it.
