Does your toolbox cry when opened?

Probably the worst I've done is cutting with a grinder that had a piece missing from the disc. It jammed in the steel. I tried to hit it out with a hammer. I forgot to unclamp the steel from the table. I've also wasted whole cylinders of MIG gas by leaving the valves open after welding.

I blew up an IR impact gun trying to press out ball joints with a press that was so stretched the gun was hammering against it and barely making progress when I was just running the screw in and out.

Took a chunk out of my left knee grinding aluminum with a 10 inch grinder. The disk grabbed the aluminum and shot at me. Before I knew it, I was sitting on the ground with a 4 inch hole just to the right of my knee cap.

couple days ago i swung the claw end of a framing hammer into my leg because i wasn't paying attention.

the grinding incident sounds damn painful.

my breakover bar has probably cried a time or 2. mainly when i was trying to remove the rear output off my 1350 t-case. tried to use a floor jack on the end of the handle, and ended up lifting the truck instead.

i've got a couple of nicely bent crow bars that have suffered similar scenarioes.

Are we talking about blowing up tools or hurting ourselves? Or both? :D

I bought a cheap 4-1/2" angle grinder years ago. I was grinding on some steel and it started smoking... then smoking a lot, then it actually caught on fire. I suppose I could have stopped before that happened but it's one of those things that is so cool that you can't stop.

I have broken a lot of tools but I think that was about the most memorable one.

Can't even count the number of time I've hurt myself, think the worst ones were getting my finger stuck in a pallet jack, and having a high lift jack let go when I was breaking the bead on a tire. Took the handle right in the cheek on that one.

got that one too.

jacking a dodge cummins out of a mud hole-let go of the high lift handle too soon,it got me under the chin, sent me flying like mike tyson pounded me.
that was damn near 20 years ago and i can still feel it.

Heh... I definitely respect them a little more now, I'm sure you do too! Worst part is I had a good beard growing and had to shave it off to see what exactly I did to myself.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ hahahahahahaha that happened to me tonight lucky it just missed my face and hit my arm and chest. damn thing slipped right out of my hand.

i've picked many a pieces of zipdisks out of my forehead... apparently they don't like being used as a grinding disk...

i was working with a friend at a heavy duty mechanic shop, we were converting a volvo "van" (box truck) with a reefer on it, from single rear axle, to a tandem freightliner rear end, and to put the new rear end in we had to drill all the bolt holes into the frame so it's pilot drill bit, small drill bit then 3 different sizes of reamers, which work great when they are new, but if they chip, they catch, and the 3/4" reamer is massive, and it takes a massive drill, it was roughly like this one... maybe one size bigger

i watched my buddy, who was trying to hold onto this massive drill cutting the hole, the reamer got jammed in the hole (as it often did) but the way he was sitting on the stool, under the box of this truck, the drill caught him, lifted him right up off the ground and slammed him into the bottom of the box of the truck

Epic.

We use big hammer drills at work to punch holes through the concrete so we can inject the termiticide around the house....One of our guys was drilling when the drill caught and sent the drill spinning and smashed his pinky finger against the brick on the house. It took six months and four surgeries to get his finger back to normal and have the nail growing in the proper direction.

OUCH! my buddy was ok... we all heard a loud thud followed by about 30 seconds of dead slilence, my buddy was so pissed off at that point he didn't feel a thing really...

i didn't see this happen, but i was kinda responsible for it... when i was younger, i was in scouts, and we were camping about 5 minutes from my house, where we were we had to drive through a public works yard to get to the campsite, because it was a private campsite for scouts, we had a keyfob for the big gate at the front of the public works yard, the gate slides sideways, it's made out of chainlink fencing, and it's a big heavy gate, probably a few hundred pounds... the section that opens is about 15feet wide, and there is a counter balance section, i suppose you could call it, on the side of it, the same size, so i was working the gate with a friend, and he showed me that if you swipe the keyfob, you could jump on the gate and ride it, so we did this all night good times, i showed another kid, who did it a bunch of times, one day when i wasn't there, he put his hand on the top of the top bar for the gate, and the roller rolled over his fingers, severing 3 of them, his middle one just the tip, his ring finger in the middle, and his pinky right at his palm. the hospital was able to re-attach his fingers and he had pins for the next 2-3 years...

My tools have been abused and violated: They got stolen from my truck!!!!!

That is low. You NEVER mess with a guy's tools without asking and you NEVER NEVER EVER mess with a guy's truck.

When I find the SOB who took them, he'll be lucky if he can even suck liquid food any more!!
