Too-Weel Ranger project

I bought the axle from a member on another site, The axle is a 94 , BUT it has the bigger parts from the 95-01. Thats what made me jump at it, bigger parts and being $100. Once I get everything together I plan on supporting the axle because it might come off the ground a few times lol.

well if it breaks, oh well it would give me an excuse to swap something else in. But I doubt it will because It will be on the road 7 outta 10 times. I only went wheeling 4 or 5 times last summer/fall

Got the Parts

Shackle pieces:
Spring perch and Shackle hanger w/bushings:
Leaf spring hanger:
Spring perch again:
Sticker:

Looks like a good project.

I'm glad I'm not the only one crazy enough to do a project like this.

If you do leaves, look at the high-steer knuckle and tie rods from Teraflex. It's a little pricey, but the knuckle is pretty heavy-duty. I have a thread in "Extreme Suspensions" if you wanna see what I did.

PS: That nub on top of the pumpkin comes off pretty easy with a Sawzall.

That's good that you have the bigger parts. I'd still recommend upgrading the joints to some 760X's if they already dont have them. They dont cost a whole lot and are far better than the 297's those shafts come with.

I'm not sure what 760x is... besides a u-joint. I know it sounds bad in all when I am doing a project like this. Is it just a model or a part #, and just get it from a regular auto store?

Thanks, this is my first 4x4 lift and modification ever, lol. I used to buy the stuff all dont up and they ended up being a POS. and I did 2wd suspensions. I figured if I was gonna have a rig-job I'd rather it be made by me.

I was gonna get that nugget but I ran out of blades for all my cutting tools and I was getting sore & tired so I stopped. And I will check out that high steer.

this is the best way to go to get going.

taylor auto salvage has all the low cost parts one ever needs for this situation....i know i can do this under 300 bux including the axle as long as they have one there...if they dont wait a day or two..

a d44 or d60 on the otherhand isnt so easy to get..plus you need new wheels and shit.

i never stop wondering why people ask why.

dont get me wrong...when your ready for a locker and gears i would look at the mopar performance axles for a cost effective solution then. d44 is a great way to go...but in the case of this axle your gaining gear strength

i wouldnt give this situation a second thought. do it. if it was possible for you to do a d44 for the same price then i would do it....

but i need more then a sissy ass d44 for my needs anyway:D

The 760X is a Spicer joint that uses a cold forging process to make it much stronger than the 297X which is what those shafts come with. You should be able to pick them up from a local parts store. I purchased mine at my local NAPA. Of course you might be able to find them on the net even cheaper. Here is a little article on them http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/products/131_0212_5_760x_spicer_u_joint_jeeps/index.html

the only update is that I traded the truck for something I wanted more. a short bed, 4x4, manual, I-6, 92 F150.

so no more ranger, but the parts are going to good use, I am giving what I have for parts to my brother to do his ranger.

"Too-Weel Ranger project" like too many wheels? too much wheel?

lol i thought that was an easy one? not trying to be a jerk but that made me laugh.
good luck with the project.

Its just something that me and my brother came up with that was a joke at first, Too-Weel (aka 2wd)

After 4 years of the truck being gone, I bought it back this past weekend. It doesn't look as pretty as it used to, some rust and a banged up bed. Sloppy front end: everything! and the shocks never seemed to be changed. Previous owner replaced the motor because they somehow destroyed a perfectly running one within 25,000 miles.

Plans will be revived. Now that I have more experience under my belt, this shouldn't be too difficult.
