It's worse than that. Most of the stuff isn't even in machines. It's honor system. The refrigerated machines have barcode scanners/credit card readers. And, of course, the cameras watching don't have power. If I were a dishonest man, no effort needed.

Several guys had food from home that needed to be heated up. A propane powered welder was put to use to run a hot plate and microwave.

Fire alarm rang just before lunch. Turned out to be a pull station. Must have gotten water in a junction box and shorted it out. Fire department said it was about their 15th call of the day. Mind you, that is our very own private BMW Fire department. All they serve is this plant. Busy morning for them. Trees down on site - landscapers already clearing them away.

That would have used vacation time or a day with no pay. production employees were forced into that situation.

Contemplating dinner tonight. Coleman stove - Philly cheese steaks like last night? Or just fry a couple eggs and heat up my leftover potatoes from last night. Ooh. I have some ham in the freezer. I could heat some of that, too.

I've never understood the panic buying of milk and bread. If power is going to be out for several days, you're much better off with vienna sausages, crackers and beer.

Yeah, I never understood that either. Non-perishable food is where it’s at for no-power situations. Cans of soup are great because you don’t have to heat them to be edible, or you can fire up your camp stove to heat them right quick.

How do I buy lunch from the vending machines if there's no power? Can't go across the road to Waffle House because they're dark, too. And the gas stations and Burger king. Cant even make a cup of coffee.

I had to put the phone and the power packs in the trucks for a little little while to charge up a little bit.


When I picked up the phone, I got this.

Note that is TOMORROW at 10:00pm. No Buffy tonight.

It must’ve been a lot worsesomewhere else than it was right around here. When I went for my little drive, the street light was working at the corner, but the next one down (couple hundred feet away) was out, and there were trucks working on the street behind me. I did a big loop and it seemed like every other traffic light was working.

Georgia Power is usually better than this, but I’m not complaining at all. The guys do a fantastic job.

i’ll rough it tonight, and then tackle vehicle maintenance in the morning.

I think it's more of a social media problem. Back before facebook and the like people around here would treat what we had today as just another storm and prepare as such. Now people are exposed to all the fear, doom, and gloom spread on social media and think that they need to rush out and prepare for the end of the world at the first sign of rain.

I always thought of that as more of a hole-up-for-awhile winter storm thing.

You may not lose power but you won't be going out to get anything for awhile.

I just zip the top off with a P-38 and rig the can over a candle.

Viennas, saltines and beer and now you have a four course meal of the highest epicurean standard (by said candle light, no less; china and linen are optional).

Local hardware store and grocery store tag team "sponsoring" weather reports on the local radio station... so they pump getting ice melt or whatever from the hardware store and groceries before the big storm hits.
