TO trade or not to trade... Opinions?

then you need to do some maintenence, i had a 78 f150 in high school, 400m, 4spd, holley 650, headers, 35's and 17MPG

my dad has a 79 f150 with a rebuilt 351 cleveland, rv cam, 650 holley, headers, 33 inch all terrains, 4spd and he is getting 19mpg if he babies it...

my 76 f250 with 400hp got 14mpg when i drove it decent, 9mpg on a friday night.....the only problems you have is that your truck needs a tuneup, you dont need to get rid of it, you havent had that truck long enough to get rid of it, if you can't afford the gas than you should have thought about that before you bought it....so give it a decent tuneup and keep it or trade it off and possibly get something even worse and lose your ass on the deal.....i vote keep it and work on it, parts for these trucks are common and cheap....

:bsflag:

its all how you drive and how you set up your carb, smaller jets and small carbs work wonders....we are currently trying to get over the magic 20 mpg mark with his truck, dont be jealous just cuz you dont now how to work a screwdriver and timing light...i drove my dads truck today, no need to pump the pedal, just turn the key and she fires right up and goes...that truck is more mechanically sound and reliable than anything that you can buy off the lot right now...

screwdriver-2 dollars
timing light-borrow from somebody
tires inflated to proper pressure- 15 minutes with an air compressor
headers from summit- 80 bucks
spark plugs-20 bucks
ported and polished STOCK intake- your time
new plug wires, coolant flush, replacing vaccum lines, cap/rotor, tranny flush, new diff fluid ect ect, these are all things that i do whenever i get a new-to-me vehicle and afterwards the mpg always go up...it is basic maintenence that everybody with a drivers liscense should know, what your sex is has no affect on the knowledge in your brain.

but since they cut your hours than maybe you should be looking for a different job instead of a different vehicle? then again you should ALWAYS be looking for a different job, because there will ALWAYS be something that pays better, has more hours and is closer, but if you arent looking then you will never find it, never get comfortable with where you are at, that is how LIFERS are created...good luck with whatever decision you make cuz in the end it is yours and yours alone....:icon_thumby:

p.s. never underestimate the power of a "truck for hire" sign, people are doing yard cleanup this time of year before winter, print some signs off the computer and post them up in gas stations, people that dont have a truck but need garbage removed, leaves hauled, scrap hauled, lumber delivered...oddjobs is what keeps my electric bill paid, acetylene tank full and the shop operating, just something to think about....

oh and i forgot something, if you go to a junkyard, mid 90's dodge intrepids have dual electric fans and they fit that fullsize radiator PERFECTLY, i think my last set of fans cost me 15 dollars, another 10 bucks for a switch and wiring....getting rid of that 10 pound clutch fan is where you pick up the most milage second to headers....
