Ok, so I recently sold my 88 b2 as she was rusting out on me body mounts and all, although she still looked and ran pretty good I figured I'd get what I could for her. Anyway now that I have been B2less for about a month I am thinking of buying another.actual really somewhat regretting selling my 88. So here is my question....I am looking at a 90 B2 auto 4x4, about 65000 original miles, totally stock, body and interior in good shape, Is going to need some work, at minImum, tune up, brakes, shocks, battery, etc. Is there anything I should look for or worry about buying a 90 b2 , I always had the 88 and knew it inside and out. Don't know much about 90s other than the body and inter style change. Any advice or what gremlins to look for before I buy is much appreciated. The plan right off the bat is to throw a 2-3 in lift on with new wheels and tires 30x9.5s , she less off road than on road but love em lifted, probably going to pay about 1000 to 2000. Any advice or thoughts would be much appreciated or at least tell me I'm not nuts for wanting to have another b2!!!,

i'd love to find a cheap 90 b2.. i mean i like the gen1 body/interior more. but the ease of the 4.0 swap is great from what i hear. lol. but for sure, buy another b2, you should never not have one!

A late build '90 will also have a d35 front axle. Just an extra little bonus :)

I have 2 of them, the 4.0 swap isn't too bad as long as you have a good donor. Look at the build date. If its after 9/89 its a good one. It'll have the D35. Also the manuals are more likely to come with the M5OD. Look for trans code M.

thanks

Thanks for the input guys, thats why i love this site, i know that nobody on this board is going to tell me not to get another B2 but was wondering what everyone thought of the 90 B2, like the dana 35 possibility, i thought i remembered something about that, and since i'm clueless how do I check the build date is it by VIN or should it be on the door sticker??? and where is the trans code M??? and someone please tell me i wasn't nuts for selling my 88 when the body mounts among other things started rusting out, i'm blaming selling it on the fact we had twin newborns and my mind was scrambled!!!!

Kids'll do that. Trans code as well as axle code and paint code etc can be found on the sticker in the driver side door jamb. If it ain't there, easiest way to tell What trans is in it (if it is in fact a manual... I thought you said auto??) is to look underneath. If there is a removable pan on the bottom, it's an FM146. One solid case, it's an M5OD. Another way to tell about the D35 is to look at the u-joint at the knuckle and the size of the pumpkin. D28 have a WEE tiny little u-joint and a small pumpkin. Look up pictures of each, you'll see what I mean. Good luck!

D35

OK--- so the 90 is an automatic, the build date was listed as 9/89, does that mean it has the D35 or no??? and I can get the 90 for about 1k or less, it runs good trans shifts good, engine needs the usual tune up new valve cover gaskets, etc. from what i can tell alll new suspension is needed but liftinf it anyway, body is good too for a northesat car, is it worth the 1k???

Yes, buy that truck and post pics. W ith that build date it could be a toss up. check your t case and ur front diff

buzz if you don't have a B2 and you miss your b2 and you can get a b2..........get the b2 :D it's okay to have the fever

This is kind of a bad place to ask opinions on whether or not to buy a B2

just get one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! haha. that's the only answer here.
but yeah... get a 89. find one with a manual t/case and hubs and d35. that would be simply amazing...

Another way to tell about the D35 is to look at the u-joint at the knuckle and the size of the pumpkin. D28 have a WEE tiny little u-joint and a small pumpkin. Look up pictures of each, you'll see what I mean. Good luck!

An easier way is to just look at the bottom shock mount. D28 has a surround and a bolt. D35 has just a "bolt" but the bolt is just a stud on the radius arm.
