I just swapped a 4.0 in my Bronco II with a 4.0 clutch. I did not swap the throwout bearing or slave cylinder. Now I have no clutch pressure and I cant shift in gear with it running. Before the swap the clutch worked awesome. Do I need to swap the throwout bearing and/or slave to make it work?

Well the later slave won't work in your TK transmission, and the TOB should be the same.

It should have worked.

That's what I thought. I thought I might have ruptured the clutch line during the swap but it doesn't appear to be leaking. Maybe the slave or master just decided to go bad all of a sudden? I'm not sure how I'd test for one or the other.

have someone work the clutch while you watch the slave, see if you can see it moving.

i have had to pump the clutch up a bit after engine replacements before.

I tried to bleed it tonight and took a look in the inspection hole but I couldn't see anything but the pressure plate. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. Somebody also left the rubber grommet in the clutch reservoir when they put it in so it wasn't getting any fluid.

I had an idea. I tried to replace the throwout bearing when the motor was out and kept pushing on the slave cylinder. Is it possible I caused the slave cylinder to fail by repeatedly shoving it inwards? This trans is old and I bet that slave cylinder is garbage anyway.

Well the slave definitely went out. Brake fluid all inside the bell housing. Turns out its an FM145 too lol it was just too dirty to read.

It was definitely the slave, thank god O'Reilly had one and the clutch came right back.
