So I am a little confused on the two above mentioned transmissions. I have been under the impression that the two are interchangeable, mainly because when I swapped everything in my BII I took out the 145 and put in the TK5. It took no special modifications and everything just bolted in.

Now that I had a $250 driveshaft built, I need to put in a 145 while I rebuild the TK5. Looking at the tech section, it says the 145 has total length (including adapter) of 40.187 inches and the TK5 has a total length of 34.687 inches. I cannot put in a longer transmission and keep my driveshaft.

What gives?? What am I misreading here. How did I do a straight swap if there is a 6 inch difference in length?

is tk5 internal slave?

you may have read about a 146.

the 146 is identical in length to the m5, the 145 is shorter, so is the TK.

so it would seem.

That's what I thought. Tech section is confusing regarding lengths.

Very!

I just posted something about those two trannies in another topic and I couldn't find much to help that guy out, so I had to guess at some things and then let him know what might not work.
