If I was just going to be driving it to work I'd save my money so as to not wear em out.

Darn...say goodbye to gas mileage, bro....lol. If you want great on road performance (wet and dry) and for tires that do last a long time I would go with BFG KO A/T tires. I am on my second set since 2000 on my 99 Ranger. 33x12.5x15's and I love them. Not much road noise and they handle in wet and dry weather really great. Good for off roading/trail riding. Not good for mud of course. 35's are not cheap. My 33's are around the same price in our area at 4 different tire stores. I checked last week and I can get a set installed for $804. Mounted and balanced and lifetime balance and rotation included in the price. I am thinking about getting another set later this year. My tires are right at 6 years old this year, but have a lot of tread left and still look great....but...they are 6 years old.

I am a big fan of Toyo, Micheline, and Pirelli tires. Whatever you do don't buy CHEAP Korean or Chinese made tires. You won't like them and you will be buying them again in 18 months.

Not sure what the age is but its either 8 or 10 yrs that most tire stores wont repair or even mount up used tires if there of a certain age due to the rubber breaking down over time.

I bought (x5) Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ's 35x12.5r15 and got 80,000 kms out of them with a regular cab short box Ranger. There was only %25 ish left on them when I sold them off as spares. Only ever did home job alignments, but I rotated them lots - including the spare.
Probably the quietest MT I've ever driven. They were no Bogger in the mud, but worked really well in ALL conditions. Gravel/snow/rocks/mud etc. They are a bit pricier then the Cooper's you were talking about, but usually you get what you pay for.
If you are only going to be driving on the road for the next year or so, I'd get an All-Terrain tire. They will be quieter and you will get better fuel economy. For the price of them, BF's don't last for shit - IMO.

Good point, Bro. Some places won't do them if they are over 6 years old. The tires are all stamped on the backside with the date the tire was molded.

I've heard treadwrights are pretty good tires. They are retreads, But I ain't scared of them. I going to get them soon when I get the cash. And I also heard they have good tread life.
