can i put a 33" tire on with a 4" lift on my 84 ranger i dont wanna have it to close to the fenders maybe if i cut them? idk im gettin tires before winter and i need to find what i want to get any one kno a good cheap tire thats like a mud tire for like 100$?

i fit 33 x 12.5 mudders on my 92 ranger no prob. with street driving on the 3.75 backspace 10" wide rims. but id cut the fenders out too cause when you hit the fan in the bush the tires tend to make the wheel well bigger themself if u dont. so if you want your tires to shred or your fenders to rip hitting close to door corner id take some fender out.

I just put 10.50 33's on my 86 and it has 2'' body lift with spring spacer till the 3 degree camber adjust barely makes the tire straight at least 2'' and the fenders had to be cut front and back. The gen 2 fender is round and holds a bigger tire.

General Grabber AT2's are what I have on my ranger and they are awesome. They have an aggressive tread pattern and handle very well offroad and on. I believe I paid like $90-100 for them and the ones I have on my truck are 33". They wear well as I have had my tires for 20k miles without a problem and they still have 90% of the tread on them. As for the tire fitment look at this page http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/TireFitment.html

ok thanks ive looked at that link before but i didnt understand it lol it was late at night i think lol. im gonna do some fender trimming and check out them tires i kno some one who has them they seem kinda narrow tho but im gonna look at my friends and see if they might be what im lookin for. thanks hauser775 and the rest of u guys. any one kno about maxxis big horn mudders? the guy at the 4x4 shop in town wants 132$ for 31s deal or should i just look around more if i dont go with the generals?

ok now i have 3.08 gears with a 2.8 and a 4 speed can i push 33s?

Nope... My 84 has 31's and 3.73's and a 5 speed and its just at the still good point. 33's and 3.08s would not be good at all, i doubt you would get out of 2nd ever.

I am going up to 4.10's and 32's, but you should think about either 4.10's but 4.56's would be a better choice.:icon_thumby:

right now, i still have my 235/75x15's and 3.45 gears and am downshifting from 4th to 5th on the bigger hills. only using my cruise control on the long straight stretches of the freeway. in the spring, i'll be getting my 4.56's put in and then 31" tires on it. they'll fit fine with my 2" bl.

so bigger # gear means that it will have more power goin up hills and stuff? im really confused on this i have 3.73 gears in my parts ranger should i put those in and just get 31s

well the larger the gear # the more turns of the driveshaft it takes to turn the wheel 1 rotation. so with 3.08s your tranny/driveshaft is spinning 3.08 rotations for ever 1 rotation of the tires. it helps the engine alot with taller gears like 4.10's because it make the engine turn the tires easier... if that makes sense?

Yeah so it would make it run up hills way better with taller gears, if you switched in the 3.73's with your 235's (i'm assuming) your truck will probably feel like a friggin speed demon! but 3.73's and 31's would probably be just fine. and you can save a butt load and just go for a body lift. they are like 50 bucks on ebay and give you the room you need for the tires not to mentions more room to work with in the engine bay. How much serious off roading do you do?

not crazy stuff mostly muddin and just woods trails i try not to break stuff cuz its all stock but im gonna get a 4 inch rough country this weekend ordered or next week

also it kinda makes sense correct me if im wrong lol with 4.10 in first gear im gonna rev higher and the truck is gonna move alot quicker? if u say go with 3.73 thats what illl do lol but with 31s or 33s what should i do 4.10? and where can i get a ring and pinion what axle can i get it out of? thanks guys

well, your '84 should have the D28 front axle and Ford 7.5 rear axle. first place i'd shop are the local junk yards for complete axles with the right gears and just swap them. easiest to do by far. hard part may be finding the ones with 4.10 gears. check the Tech Library here for all the years those axles were used.
if you have no luck at the yards, then i'd post here in the "wanted to buy" forum and keep checking the "parts for sale" forum. new gear sets and install kits will run several hundreds of dollars for sure.

Yeah thats basically it, the engine will spin more rpm's to turn the tires the same amount but will be using way less effort to do so.

Kinda like the pulleys you played around with in science class lol, 1 pulley makes you have to put 1lb of force down to lift a 1lb block up but you move it just as much as you move your hand down. with 2 pulleys you only need .5lb's of force to pull it up but you have to move twice as far to get it in the same area. same concept but with gears.

If you are going for cheap i would just swap the 3.73 axles onto your truck and get 31's thats all that will fit under a 4" lift comfortably. But if moneys not too bad and you really want 33's get a 6" lift and 33's and then regear to 4.56s. Or you can get the 4" and 31's and go with 4.10s' its really waht you want.

What do you want? 33's? 31's? 32's? what tires you want we can decide whats best.
