i got 33/12.50 on my 4.0 4:10 geard ranger and only average 12-15 in the city and 15 on the highway is this because i need to buy a speedometer calibrator?

It couldn't hurt. If you crunch the numbers, your truck had about 31's on it before and now 33's. That is 2 inches in diameter, which means your truck goes 6 inches (2 inches*pi) further on each rotation they make. Lets say 31's go 93 inches on one rotation, this means 33's go 99 inches. The 33 will go around 640 times per mile and the 31 will go around 688 times per mile. This means your speedometer is off by about 7%. So really, If you drive a mile on your odometer, you really go 1.07 miles. This means your actual fuel mileage is 12.8 to 16 mpg.

The real problem is the amount of weight you've added with the 33's. You probably added about 80lbs of wheel and tire on top of the stock wheel and tire weight that the your engine now has to spin. Thats going to be the real culprit. Try and ease up on the skinny pedal too, that can save tons of fuel!

What he said + big fat tires need a big fat gas tank to keep em rolling....unless you drive 60mph or less on the highway......:icon_bounceblue:

I got about the same set up, and my fuel mpg suck!!!!! Never had good mpg to start with but 33's does not help.

what if i went with some 18" alloy rims with 33's? im also thinking of putting in a jet chip and a jet mass airflow sensor

wouldn't lower gears help IF you do a lot of stop/go traffic (in town)?

i know when i go 33's i plan on going with 4.56's b/c of starting it off in town. most of my dd is in town.

well that would be alright but where i live its an even amount of highway and city. i know that 35's with 4:88 gears give 16-18 mpg but i dont wanna spend all that money on a superlift and gears ill spend under 1000 to get better mpg cuz i love my truck and dont want to sell it cuz i gotta go to school thats why im trying to improve the mpg. im spending 80$ a week in gas and yes thats 2 full tanks

yeah 80 a week.. you need to revise that plan somewhere..

switch to tall and skinny tires: 235/85x16=32 inches.
switch to an all terrain tread for less rolling resistance.
keep them inflated to around 50psi. stiffer ride, but harder tires get better fuel economy.
regear to maybe 4.56 so your foot isn't into the gas pedal so much.
add an aux tank in the bed so when gas prices drop a little every now and then, you can take advantage of the lower price.
plan your driving route and times so there are fewer stop lights/signs, less traffic to move in and out of, and reduce idle time whenever you can. leaving 5-10 minutes early for work can help keep you out of the rush hour mess in most bigger metro areas and get you a better parking spot when you get there without driving around (wasting gas) looking for a good spot.
this is assuming your truck is well maintained with fresh fluids and regular tuneups.
and a corrected speedometer won't change your mileage, it will just make your calculations more accurate if you don't want to use gps or any other method for figuring mileage.
just a few thoughts.

if you want good milage buy a little pisscutter, if you want to have fun in the mud and drive a truck then you cant complain about milage, I gave up complaining about it long ago lol just exept it..

i accept it with considering ways to improve it..
