For your reading enjoyment; try The Sticky here in The Tires and Rims Section and go to the top of this page and click on Tech Articles in the blue bar. In the Tech Articles there is much to learn about rims and how they apply to our Rangers.

^^what he said... But if it helps any, i have the stock 16" teardrop mag rims on my 1999 4x4 ranger, running 33" MT's. They rub a bit, but that's the redneck mating call. As far as rims go 16" diameter rims shouldn't be an issue, check that tech section for correct backspacing.

I have the 16 inch wheels from a 2002 on my 2000 4x4 with the 30 inch tires. No rub and it rides well and has a nice ride height.
