I have a set of 265/75/r16's that i wanna mount on a 16x10 wheel. will this work? can someone explain these metric tire sizes to me? thanks

OK, the "265" is the tread width in millimeters, the "75" is the percentage of the tread width which is the sidewall height. So 75% of 265 is 198, 198 converted to inches is 7.8 inches, so therefore 7.8 X 2 (because there is sidewall on both sides of the wheel) + 16 (rim height) is 31.6 Inches.

you were doing pretty good there until it came to the 7.8X2. when you take a tape measure to measure the height of your tire you are only measuring one side of your tire, therefore once you have converted the percentage of your sidewall to inches, you add that amount to your rim size to figure tire height in inches

He did it right. The 7.8x2 is for the sidewall above and below the rim. the way you say a 265/75/16 would be a 24x10.50x16. A 265/75/16 is a 32x10.50x16.

And for the OP, a 265/75/16 will fit a 16 x10 rim with no problem.

just be for warned, running a tire that size on a rim that size will cause problems, i reccomend u run a 8" wide rim......if not, the tire will not have any sidewall bulge and ur 32" tire is now effectivly under 30

my bad, i just woke up no coffee yet, BUT, he should have specified top and bottom, NOT both sides. the both sides is what caught my attention. i thought, wtf, last time i measured my tire it was from ground up. anyway no harm no foul, have a sunny day

So the formula I use often goes something like this.
265/75R16 = 31.65"

(265 / 25.4) x (.75 x 2) + 16 = 31.65"

As for the orginal question. Yes a 16x10 rim will work. A range of 16x8 to 16x10 is best suited.

i will say this once more, with truck tires u want the rim to be about 3-4" narrower ideally for tire wear, proper height and reliability, for a tire that will be about 11 1/2" wide, a 8" rim is perfect, with a 10" rim u will have no sidewall budge, and it will effectively shrink the overall size of the tire.....

I agree, 10" is too wide for a 265 tire. No more than 8"
