1992 Ranger Tire size?

Hi. New member here, first time ranger 4x4 owner.
I have a 1992 ranger 4x4 and i just installed a 6 inch BDS lift.
It has factory rims and 235*75-159 spec actual size is 28.5x9.5. I would like to put on some 33 x 12.,5 x 15 MT. I was wondering what would my options be using the bigger tires?

Your factory rims for your 235/75R15 are most likely are 15x7s with 4.5" backspacing

15x7 fits right in the middle of the 6-8" range for rim width of 235/75s.

15x7 can be used on up to 265/75s (aka 10.5s) e.g. 33x10.5R15, but they are at the narrow end of recommended at that point.

For 12.5 tires, you want a 8.5-11" rim. So, you are looking at new rims, e.g. 15x10s with the same 4.5" backspacing.

Note: By keeping the same 4.5" backspacing on a 10" rim, you are increasing track by 1.5" side, 3" total. The good: Wider track makes your lifted vehicle more stable. The bad: The wider track puts more load on the wheel bearings & tires have tendency to make contact with fenders when cornering sharply.

If you increase backspacing, rims will start to make contact with steering components & tires will make contact with fender liners, etc when cornering sharply.

Hope that helps.

Depending on engine size and axle gear ratio, you may want to change gearing. That would mean both front and rear axles. 4.0l and 4.10 axle gearing and 31" tires worked good for me. 33" would probably be OK too.

I put on 33 12.50 s and 8 in wheels with 3 3/4 backspacing. Aprox 6in lift.
I had to trim the fender as the tire would rub at the lower well where it turns into rocker panel.
