Tire Pressure

TwoTrackMind said:
My rangR is heavier than most (2500lb front, 3500lb rear), and I found that on 31/1150/15 the rear is good @40psi. The front is still in committee (and out to lunch) but 40 seems too hi yet, next set of tyres Im trying @35psi (except I may go to another size which calls all bets off).
That's a lot of weight... your rear axle is only rated for 2750lbs (or 3200 if you have the 31 spline axle (FX4)).

I have 265/75/16 on the 'burban (basically 31.5x11/16) load "d" and I ran them at 50 psi and rotated every 6000 miles, nice even wear all the way around, they got 30,000 miles on them and still 75% tread left on Yokohama Geolanders.

I got my General Grabber At2s in july. I run them at 49 psi( I check at least 3 times a week) and they are wearing like steel. I keep them rotated and check pressure constantly since I am practically obsessive compulsive and everything must be perfect. Very very even wearing.

you guys that are running over 40 PSI on an empty truck are crazy. even if your somehow getting even wear, the reduction in traction is terrible.

some time ago, i ran mine at 50PSI for a week because i was trying to squeeze all the fuel economy out of the truck that i could. i quickly discovered that rock hard tires+light truck+spirited teenage driver=understeer in the worst way. the difference after airing back down to 30PSI was night and day.

A Suburban is hardy an empty truck even when its empty.

Youre absolutely right- I burnt 3 bearings in two standard axles then put in the Level2 axle about 18 months ago, no probs since. I also have a couple extra leafs on each side w/ airbags

My truck almost always has a load. And as far as traction goes when its not loaded, Believe me I know theres none at all. my truck rides like crap without a load because of the shocks Ive got on the rear. Real stiff. Nice'n smooth with 400-500 lbs in the back though.
