Tire pressure monitors

Getting ready to switch my aftermarket wheels/tires back to stock for winter. Can anyone tell me how to reset the tire pressure monitor light. Don't want to look at it all winter !

You need a Ford TPMS reset tool. You can get them from Snap-on or the dealership. I think they run about $25.

Then get in, flip the key to run and back off 3 times ending in run, hit the brake once, then cycle the key 3 more times. Horn should honk.

Then hold the tool to the tire and pass it back and forth 180* away from the valve stem. Horn will honk as each sensor resets.


If you just adjust the pressures you can normally just drive it, but after sitting the sensors are asleep and probably won't wake up on their own.

Wow, talk about a complicated system...why not just keep honking the horn till the sensors wake up?

I was going to suggest putting a piece of black tape over the light but that sounds like a lot more fun.

Does anyone know if there's any difference between the ranger wheels and B2300 wheels? Can I use the same tool to calibrate either set? I assume they're the same but I would like to know for sure.

But, I just upgraded to E rated tires on my 150. Can I raise the threshold setting on that TPMS so I can run 80# in the tires? Is there a range that the monitors allow? Does the TPMS warn of low pressure only, or high as well? How does this reset tool work?
Ya, I know, it's not my Ranger, but I can't get anyone to reply on this on any 150 foroum, and have done a search elsewhere.

Put all the sensors in a sealed PVC pipe with a valve stem. Inflate to factory pressure. Throw it behind the seat and never worry about it again.

It will not set the light for excessive pressure as far as I know.

The reset tool just gives it coded radio signal telling it to reset. Driving it should get the same result.

I would not run more than 50 psi on an f150 even with E-rated tires unless you are putting too much weigth in the back. 80 is way too much and will wear the tires funny.

This absolutely, positively does NOT work. The the rotation of the wheels above a certain speed is what brings the sensors to life after they fall asleep after sitting for a period of time.

Are all tpms sensors created equal? Is there a generic sensor appreciably cheaper that works across brands?
