Tire Pressure Fer Snow ?

This is my first winter fer 4-wheelin in snow, what tire pressures dose yous run?
I'm runnin 33" Baja Claws with my usual 10 psi and they seem ta werk OK, wood more pressure be better or worse?
 
When me and my dad had our old Samurai, we ran 6-7 in the snow with out 33" Super Swampers. I don't know how different that would be with your tires. A Sami also weighs probably half what a Ranger does too.

9-10 PSI sounds about right actually, considering the vehicles weight, tire size and all that.

For snow, depending on your Philosophy/ theory, (low pressure to stay afloat on the snow, vs. higher pressure to get down to the hard ground) the lowest pressure you can get is the one you want to use.

Watch out though becuase if your pressure gets too low, you can pop a tire off the bead.

I would say for ice and snow probably put it up to 25 or 30 because then if you need to you can deflate them. Also that seems really low unless you are talking about off road use only. If you had that on the road you would kill your tires.
 
I run 50psi in my tires. Never had any problems for traction wether its mud, snow, ice. Of course il slide on ice some but its easy to drive were I can control it to drive normal or have a little fun.
 
If the pressure you have in it is working for you, leave it there.

I ran muds on my Ranger for a couple winters because I thought they'd work best (was going to college in an area that got lake-effect snow). When we started getting snow I'd throw them on and I'd run them at 50psi right up until the serious snow started. Then I found to my disgust that the tires absolutely sucked. They wouldn't grip anything, even deep snow they struggled. Then I tried dropping the pressure. 30-35 psi with ~500lbs in the bed and they worked great. They worked even better in deep snow when I dropped the weight in the bed down to about 250lbs.

My choptop, I have the 33's at 15 psi front and 10 psi rear. And I drive it on the road like that year round. That's about the pressure where the tires wear evenly and perform the best.

Thanks guy's, most of my driving is off road with just a little in town.
Snows blowing hard now, will be good wheelin when it clears.
 
I always run the same pressure Winter or Summer, no off-roading, just my DD for the Winter.

For deep snow wheelin, run the lowest pressure you can get away with, without blowing a bead.

For me it is 3-5 in the rear and 10-15 in the front. I run 33x14 Boggers in the rear and 33x12.5 Swampers in the front. Once I get off the trail then I bring all 4 tires up to about 20 with my OBA.

Yeah, when someone says "4-wheelin" I assume they're gonna be on a trail and not driving down a paved or plowed road. I think you're right.

That wasn't aimed at you, I am not sure if you took it that way or not. I was saying it twords the people that said run a higher pressure(talking about the road).

Hey Carlos, how much snow did yoiu get down there (Carson/Minden/Gardnerville)???

I got about 14" out in the North Valleys (north of Reno). With the wind blowing, I have drifts over 4 feet deep:shok:
 
i was running extremely low pressures off roading one time with my mickey thompson baja radials in the snow, probably about 7-8psi and i broke a bead waay way out in the middle of this field. so i called my grandfather, cause he seems to know everything. He jumped on the snomobile came out and found me. He got off and handed me a bottle of lighter fluid, and a long stick lighter. And he said "here's your new portable tire machine" and he then showed me that if you squirt a line of fluid around the inner side and light it, the expanding air will catch the bead again then extinguish the flame by sufication. No tire damage either. He said that it was the old school way of doing things. :icon_thumby: I never knew this. Kinda cool i thought.
 
i run 33" swomps i try not to go below 12psi if i do then beads start coming off.if you have some thing light like a samy then low as u can,to get that thing floating,if u got some thing with lots of power like a v8 the 15 to 20 is fine ,u have the good wheel spin that u need. remember when in dout give her hell..
