ok so i want to get some bigger tires for my 08 ranger
i dont have the money to lift it so i think im going to get some 31's, just to make my truck look beefier.
my dad said that 31/1050R15's are too wide and will knock down my MPG's a little bit
is this true? if so how much will i lose?
and is there any other size tires i could get that will give me a beefier look without the loss of gas mileage?
thanks for all your help!
eric

31s are likely going to rub if you're 2WD (coil spring/A-arm front suspension).

There's really no way to get around the MPG loss from bigger tires. Regearing the axle helps a lot, but won't quite recover your mileage 100%.

WIDER tires might not impact the mileage as much as taller ones, but it will still affect it to some degree (maybe 3-5% vs 10-20%).

metal,
where can i get 9.5's?
ive been looking for those but i cant find them
its always 1050...
thanks

mhughes...
will those really make me look a lot beefier, even though theyre only 28 inches tall?
and will those be noisy on the road?

im new to all this stuff
thanks for putting up with me guys!
eric

those will be rather noisy on the road, and they would make the truck look alot more capable, becuase it really would be, and thats not a bad price at all, keep in mind, most 30" a/t's will measure at about 28 anyways

If you're never going to use them, swampers are going to be a waste of your money, expect a year of mileage out of them at the most.

Ya super swampers wear out pretty fast. dont know how much driving you do every day but if its a lot then stay away from swampers. You should check out a Wildcat EXT. Great tire and looks pretty good. Of maby a BFG M/T......I tire I really liked was the GoodYear M/T. Looked good and did great.

Heres some pics for ya

The Wildcat EXT...(The ones on the toy were 33/12.5/15's...Ran them on the girlfriends toyota and the wore great, sounded good and looked good.)

The BFG M/T...(The ones on the jeep are 32/11.5/15's, buddy ran them and they looked nice and did good.

I know they are bigger then what your looking for but this is to give you an idea how they look....They come in all size's......

Hope it helps and good luck.

At the severe cost of street performance and longetivity.

I got 255/70-16 Widetrack Baja AT's for $80 a tire, and they are actually radials. Almost 30k miles and they still have half the tread on them, and for an AT they don't look too bad either. My uncle has the MT's and likes them as well.

You can get many bargain brand tires for cheap that perform well, mine were made by Peerless, an offshoot of Firestone.

but he hasnt been back to tell us what he plans todo with the truck with new tires, whether its just for the look, or whether he actually goes off the beaten trail

He wants his 2008 truck to look tougher without hurting the milage... I doubt he is going to thrash it off road too much.

Really if you are going for looks (they are a good performer from what I hear too) you can't beat these IMO. If I buy new mud tires for my Ranger this is what they will be:

ya that was a good price for the swampers, but is its just his DD then they would wear out fast.....at least with paying for a different tire he could get more miles out of them.......

thanks guys for all the replies!
sorry for this delayed response.
ive been reading over all of your replies and im still stuck!
my dad is still saying that the 31/10.5/15's are too wide and will hurt my milage
i read in some other thread that some guy actually got better milage on his 88 with the 31's on it??
i was thinking for sure some bfg A/T's but im still stuck on the sizes.
i have no clue what im doing when i look at tire sizes.

and im not gunna go offroading(that much:secret:) but im just looking for a "beefy" look for my truck.
thanks guys
eric
