I've got to replace the slave cylinder on my Ranger tomorrow. It looks like a basic r&r, but I've never pulled a Ranger tranny/slave cylinder. Are there any special tools I'll need?

Thanks,
Mike

Nothing special required. A trans lift would be nice but if you have help or good balance you can do it alone. I did, twice . . .

Just be sure to mate the tranny and engine relatively straight or you could bugger the throwout bearing and have the slave leak, my reason for twice . . .

I haven't had a chance to work on it yet. Maybe this weekend if I can get off work. Thanks for the heads up about lining up the tranny shaft and clutch disc when going back together with it :icon_cheers:!

My only advice is to lay across the engine bay when its cool and use a 13mm wrench to get at the top to transmission bolts, put your arm behind the ignition coil/intake manifold and youll be able to get at them reasonable easy.

Oh and I used a trans jack for the first time today, its honestly worth the 100 dollars it was so easy.

Thanks for the advise. I guess I'll start with those top bell housing bolt before I unbolt the crossmember.

Yes tranny jacks are sweet. I have a stand-up type I use with my lift and love it. Much easier and safer than the old days using a standard floor jack. I have a crooked finger on my left hand due to a transmission / transfer case falling off a floor jack onto it a few years ago. :nono:
