I assume he means the electric transfer case and auto locking hubs. What was it called, touch drive? It was mounted on the ceiling when it first came out in the first gen ranger and bronco ii's.

👍🏼 New to me. I’ve never seen one. Mine are all manual.

Do you have the flip down map light? I do with the clock up above the rear view mirror.

That's where they put the touch buttons until they moved them to the dash in '89.

Nothing overhead on my 85s. One has a center console info display thing that tells you when a light is out or the washer fluid is empty and had auto hubs (manual now). One has tilt steering and cruz control. That’s as fancy as they get. My 89 is manual case but it’s an XL plain Jane.

My map lights are integral w/the touch o matic 4x4 bar switches! :)

So these overhead console were used for automatic transfer case controls. Were they ever in vehicles with manual cases?
I’d like to see one.

i highly doubt w/manual cases, but.....someone a tad stronger than me should prolly answer that one!

I'll snap a picture of what is in my 85 XLT at some point. It's a clock with map light that comes down and can be pivoted left or right.

Yeah, 85 was the last year for those, kind of a less common option. 86-88 was touch drive or nothing on the ceiling.

I think the touch drive console could easily be adapted into a switch panel or the like though. I was tempted but found the clock/maplight and have been happy.

Map lites and green digital clocks. Just like the ones in Ford Escorts . Positioned center above rearveiw mirror . Kinda cool stuff cromed.
