Timing question

I can't seem to find a decent spec on setting the timing on my 351 Windsor. The engine is well built...basics are....030" over, Keith Black slugs (10.7:1), .512" Crane, Edelbrock Performer, Holley 750 and WP 2.02/1.6 heads. I'm running around 15BTDC but not sure if this is right...got this from an old shop manual that spec'd a high performance 351 and showed 14 or 16BTDC for this motor.

It's time to start tuning this thing and I need to get this ironed out.

Suggestions?

some depending on year can go as low as 10degrees, i've seen some people who run their RPM's up to 2000 and advance it until it pings and then retard it until it stops, but unless you have a good ear i would not recommend that . would also help if we knew what year motor you have . everyone is different

Originally a 1972 out of a Montego. But the only stock parts as of now are the block, crank and rods.

Start with 12* BTDC and work up till the pinging starts, then back off a couple degrees. The total it'll take will also depend on the octane you use.
