After the timing belt broke, I had the opportunity to replace it and learn about this truck. wasn't thrilled about any of it. The worst part of all of the process was the rear Timing cover was partial. Basically the plastic around the bolt holes was still there and some parts connected to the front cover.
When setting the timing it was fairly easy until it came to the cam. There are no markings on the block, they were on the missing part of the rear cover. I used the picture in the Haynes manual and placed it at the 5 o'clock position or very close to it, made sure the oil pump was at the 12 and the crank was at TDC (key at the 12 o'clock), released the tensioner and then rotated the crank 2 times listening for noises such as grinding and clatter.
I returned all the things back to their places, torqued them down right and finally put the battery after two days and made sure it was charged. I got in, turned the key, heard the fuel pump and proceeded to crank the motor. it turned over with no problems but never started. is it possible that the cam is off?
If it is a timing issu due to the cam, does anyone have a picture of the rear cover that I can base my cam position on? I do need to get a new rear cover but it'll be a week or two. Now that I know how to replace the belt, it should only take an hour or two to replace it. I also have some other things to do at the same time.
Any advice would greatly appreciated.
