Not to hijack but I've looked and searched for a small answer. Does it matter how the shaft with the fuel pump boss on it is timed into it?

If the truck has a distributor then that shaft must be lined up with the # 1 position on the distributor...but it can be adjusted a bit to advance or retard the timing. Fuel injection systems that have a distributor have the same requirement.
