My son just changed the timing belt on my '93 2.3 manual..truck has 157K..and the belt appeared to be the one from the factory..Had Ford Motorcraft printed on it..made by Gates..I replaced it with a Gates belt from Orielly's..first thing I noticed when I drove off was it had more power..it had always seemed a bit sluggish compared to the '96 Ranger I drove for 500K a couple years ago..My question is...could the belt have stretched so much that the timing was affected..retarded I would guess..and thus make the truck under perform ??? Thanks...

Hell yeah that could happen.. belts can stretch to the point that they just give up amd tear so stretching to the point of retarding the timing is definitely possible

I had an '87 CRX that gained almost half of a second on the 0-60 time. Astonishing difference.
