I Have A 94 Ranger With A 2.3 L (8 Plug Model). I Was Wondering If This Engine Is A Freewheeling Engine Or Not? I Have 241,000 Miles On It And Just Blew A Timing Belt. Did The Valves Get Bent? I Was On The Highway Doing About 62 When The Belt Gave Out. Thanks In Advance.

Chris

Yes, it's a non-interference motor. Just go buy a new timing belt and install it. It should run the way it did before the belt broke.

i third that and good luck gettin the crank pulley off i found and impact and a 6 inch 3 jar puller works the best once you loosen the bolt dont take it all the way out put your puller on the head of bolt and on the back of pulley and go to town good luck

Be sure you properly time the cam, and cam sensor/ aux shaft with the crank, there are alignment marks, get a repair manual if you dont already have one, if your still unsure, take it to a good shop. ;)

Thanks,

I got new belt installed. Ended up taking it to a shop. Too far to tow to get home. Getting a ticking sound now. possibly idler pulley or tensioner. I'll shut off engine and take a wrench to the tensioner, tighten, then restart. No tick till engine settles at idle. Tensioner does stick when I pulled off belt. Used some PB blaster...no luck. I hope it is not the timing belt tensioner. Tick or rattle definitely in the front not tappets.

how much was it to get a new belt installed?

considering buying a 97 b2300 and dont know if its ever been changed

good to know that the motor is non interference though ... been drivin hondas my whole life and you might as well get a new engine if you break the timing belt on those

just a followup. I pulled off belt. Ticking still there. Noise was under timing cover. Took it back to the shop. Crank sensor bolts were coming loose. loc-tite and a wrench fixed it. Hope I can get another 240k out of it.

Hey, When I Open The Oil Filler Cap On The Rocker Cover With Engine At Idle, The Engine Rpm's Decrease And I Feel Air Escaping When I First Remove Cap. Is This Normal Or Could The Pcv Filter Be Plugged?

Thanks

Chris

I would say the breather tube is plugged, just in front of the throttle body should be a little rubber tube (about 3/8" inside diameter) attached to the valve cover

no thats normal, if you see the tube that runs from the valve cover to the throttlebody behind the oil cap, that is for the PCV system, it allows air to flow down through the engine while the PCV valve has vacuum on it. With the oil cap off it allows unmetered air to enter the engine by the tube instead of coming in the airbox and passing through the MAF. Having the oil cap off is like a big vacuum leak.
