Alright guys its time to paint my 1990 ranger.. the previous owner decided to paint it 4 different shades of black and its horrible..
Im going to be painting it using rattle cans but i cant decide on a color.. Honestly i have no idea what color i want to paint it. i like gloss black, blue, orange, or neon/electric green.. I also saw a cool looking black, grey and white camo idea on a B2.
Anyways, if y'all think a color will look good on it let me know... im also considering bedliner. i think i uploaded the pictures right.. bare with me, im new. :icon_thumby:

I would just redo it in satin black and call it good, looks tuff like that plus touch up is easy for trail rash.

That's going to cost a fortune in rattle cans, I would suggest searching on the net for (50 dollar paint job).

**** that spray it...

uckf that spray it...

Krylon satin black is less than 5 bucks a can around here... Get 3 buddies and 24 cans of paint and go at er. I would do the satin instead of flat though. Satin doesn't get chalky like flat black and you can actually clean satin. You should really hit it with some sand paper and primer too but that's at your discretion. I would hate to see 100 bucks worth of rattle cans peel off. She might look like a lepper in that scenario.

FWIW, 3 coats of paint on the hood of my '95 Dakota took 4 cans. The older square body Dakota hoods are pretty equal in surface area to a Ranger.

That's a fairly straight truck for it's age. I would make it look nice again. Remember your paint job is only as good as your surface prep. Wet sand it with 200 grit, fill any low spots, touch up with primer where needed, wet sand all over with 350 0r 400 grit and paint her. If you want the paint to last don't rattle can it. If you don't or don't have a buddy with a compressor and gun see if the painter at Maaco or someplace like that would squirt it on a Saturday morning or something.

As for color... satin black looks nice but is really common... olive drab makes it look military... But IMO these little trucks always look really good in white or red... But it is your truck and you will have to live with whatever color you decide to paint it. You also didn't mention what color the interior is. For looks that needs to be taken into consideration when selecting an exterior color.

Go to your local farm supply store and get tractor paint. It's like $50 a gallon. Get the reducer and hardener too. You can spray it or roll it on and have a helluva lot better job than any rattle can. The biggest key is prep though. Clean it with prepsol, wash it, let dry. Take an air hose and blow into the body seams and around any trim you leave on to get water and dust out of there. Use a good sandpaper and scuff it down with 320 or finer. Then start from the beginning again. Then tape it off, wipe it down with prepsol again, tack it, apply paint.

im looking at john deere blitz black, its a little more expensive than other brands but i think it will look good on the truck. or bedliner, thats always a good idea since its on the trails every 3 days or so.
