I had two more things to do listed in my signature...now I'm down the one. The TP headers still need to go on...after coating though. But today I got my complete MSD ignition system installed....new Blaster 2 Coil, Pro-Billet mechanical advance distributor and 6AL-2 ignition box. Never did solve the wiring gremlin in the stocker system...so I said screw it and dropped the dime (ok...DIMES) on the entire shebang!!
The 6AL-2 box has a two stage rev limiter...a max limit and a low step for burnouts and launches. I wired the low step in line with my line lock...it works great! I initially had the low step at 2800RPM and max limit at 6K. Total install time took about 2 hours...but that included a lot of gawking while trying to figure out where to lay everything out and install the box. I still need to dial in the timing and play with the plug gaps but all else is done. It fired up immediately!! Nice!!!!
First ride was rather mellow...my 5y.o. daughter was along and grinning as wide as her daddy! She loves the little truck and could not wait for the first hard launch. After a few miles and some fresh hi-test fuel we stopped on a local "strip". I activated the line lock and started the tires-a-spinning...at 2800RPM it started dropping spark just at it should. Then I loosed the button and mashed the skinny pedal. Definately much quicker throttle response and the 358W just seemed to grab RPM's faster. I tapped the B&M into second and the tires still were playing catch up...after that I looked at my lil'girl and she said "DO IT AGAIN DAD!!!" Freakin awesome!!
After that we came home and wreched on my other V8 Ranger for a while to get it ready for coal hauling this winter.
