Blown a headgasket in the 4.0L so it's comming out and a set of ported heads will be going back on with a full engine gasket kit. Finally get to fixing the Leaky main seals.

I'll be installing the 4.10 diffs and setting up the rear axle with larger arc springs to get rid of the blocks that are on there now.

I'll likely post up some pictures as I go.:icon_welder:

Sounds like fun.

Are these ported heads aftermarket or ford?

My 4.56's are better than your 4.10's :thefinger:

This thing is a DD and 4.56 would kill gas milage. Right now the best I've gotten was 20 Mpg. 33's with 3.73's

The original truck the 4.0L came out of was a 91 that had 3.55's and stock 215's. So if you do the math for 33's the best/closest to stock would have to be 4.10's. And that's what I've already got.

The block is a 91 4.0L and it's going to get a set of 95TM Ford heads.

I used to get around 21mpg with my 2.9, 4.56 and 33's, haven't tested the 4.0 yet, it's still under construction.

Oh, and you were right on the 4.0 swap between 90's being plug and play. (for the most part, tail lights, wipers, radio and other little crap didn't work.)

You should throw in a cam while your at it....Talk to Racin' Ranger on RPS, aka. Trevor. VERY knowledgable guy when it comes to 4.0L's and happens to have 3-4 422 cams lyin on his shelf at work. I can PM you his number if you want.

My friend's nearly identical '93 with 33x12.50s and 4.56 gets the same mileage as my '94 with 4.10s (both right about 21 MPG hwy), but his will easily smoke mine right off the line.
But I guess if ya already got 'em...

if you dont mind my askin do the 95tm heads bolt on with no issues? and what benefits do they have

The 95 4.0L had a change in piston and combustion chamber shape. Putting the 95+ heads onto an older block will bump compression to 10:1. The use of Premium fuel will be a nessessity to keep from pre-detonation.

All 4.0L OHV heads are the same bolt pattern.

Ya I have the 4.10's already. I stripped a buddies truck and that was payment for stripping it. The 4.10 diff for the front and 4.10 8.8 out back.

What are those springs out of? They don't look like RBV leafs to me....

They are not RBV. Read around and you may find what they are out of. I've been planning to try these for a while now.

You wouldn't happen to remember the tooth count/color of your speedo driven gear? From what I remember I have a white driven gear w/3.73's and I need a Yellow one with the 4.10's

FWIW I know someone who has 95TM heads on a '91 long block in his explorer sport. It knocks and pings like crazy even with premium....Hopefully you don't run into that problem.
