1989 4x4 xlt 2.9 auto. Changed oil and filter(motorcraft) now it ticks worse than ever before. oil pressure gauge also was bouncing around so I changed it also, fixed it for about 30 minutes now it's acting up again. I am stumped folks need advice please. Thanks

It's rare to have this happen, but I think you'll find low oil pressure with the mechanical gauge installed. Sometimes after an oil change, it's possible the build up in the pan gets dislodged and it starts to plug up the oil pump screen. Had the same thing happen to an old T-Bird (302, 1979) Changed the oil...had some oddball pressure readings, and then the pressure flatlined. The pump failed due to a very small chunk of crud getting past the screen and it hit the pump gears.

See what happens with the mechanical gauge.
