ticket

In my county they are trying to get the red light cameras removed. Those in favor of the cameras state that they have reduced the number of fatalities from red light runners... which is a true statement. They reduced it by 1 fatality per year.

Those that oppose the cameras state that accident's have gone up at those intersections by 500%. They just aren't fatal. Most of the accidents are caused by people slamming on their brakes to stop at a yellow light because they don't want to get their picture taken. The increase in accidents is causing auto insurance to increase for people who live around red light cameras.

I don't really know where I stand but they have been having open meetings about this and I have been thinking about attending one.

Not that I like red light cameras or speed cameras, but the actual ticket isn't a big deal. In most places they can't issue traffic citations from video, but they can levy a fine for violating a civil ordinance from video. My understanding is that generally speaking you are not being ticketed for violating your state's traffic laws but are being issued a civil fine for breaking a city or county ordinance. That means there are no marks on your driving record.

Red light cameras suck, the only thing they are good for is watching people who think they are hot shit and try to beat them :icon_rofl:

They don't have them where i live but they have them in the next town over in Iowa. When i go over there i see at least 2 people get flashed

Probably not in Omaha proper but they have them in the conglomerated mess around Omaha, Lavista, Papillion, Bellevue... down around there they have cameras on select stop lights. I can never keep track of exacty what town I am in down there but they have them up in that area.

I don't care for them for tickets but it would be nice if they had them recording video for accidents...

yea it goes on ur record and so far the lawyers i have talked to said before they give me advice i have to pay 200 for one hour so thats not really worth it

Uh, it's a red light camera, how can they charge you if they don't know who was driving the vehicle....

It's just a fine that *someone* has to pay, or argue.

$200 bucks to possibly avoid jail?

Seems like a good gamble to me.

Unless they take a picture of you behind the wheel.

they charge the owner of the vehicle and it bumpb up their insurance

Then Stfu and fight it yourself. Those are your options. You knew that before making this thread. What did you honestly expect to get outta posting this....,

isnt running a redlight a moving violation, regardless of location?

It is... If a cop pulls you over for it. Since there's no sworn officer behind the camera, in IL, it's nothing more than a non-moving violation. Nothing that goes on your record. It's akin to a seatbelt ticket or any other city ordinance ticket.
