In my county they are trying to get the red light cameras removed. Those in favor of the cameras state that they have reduced the number of fatalities from red light runners... which is a true statement. They reduced it by 1 fatality per year.
Those that oppose the cameras state that accident's have gone up at those intersections by 500%. They just aren't fatal. Most of the accidents are caused by people slamming on their brakes to stop at a yellow light because they don't want to get their picture taken. The increase in accidents is causing auto insurance to increase for people who live around red light cameras.
I don't really know where I stand but they have been having open meetings about this and I have been thinking about attending one.
