1993, 4.0 ohv auto, it ticks on start up, and for most of the time its running. What could it be? Its something in the valvetrain. Cupped pushrods? lifters?:icon_confused:

Worn pushrods or lifters. Its a common issue. Delta Cam sells hardened rocker arms and pushrods that should fix the issue if its the pushrods.

yeah it's normal... if it stops ticking after a minute, I wouldn't worry with it..next time you change your valve cover gaskets (which if it has cork gaskets, it probably needs it now)...just look at the rockers and push rods, make sure the rocker arms are tight.

its uncommon for a 4.0 OHV to NOT tick on start up..

Yep, I gotta change those gaskets, both sides piss oil pretty much, and one is rusted.

Might as well change them while you're in there. I did mine when doing the lower intake gasket. Mine still ticks though so I guess its lifters.

Worn pushrods or ROCKERS.

^ Yes, but from what I understand, Delta replaces the whole rocker arm assembly.

Yep.
The lifters are also known for ticking though correct?

The lifters/ pushrods are the only thing thats known for premature wear, I've never heard of the actual arm wearing out.
