im thinking on a thrush turbo straight pipe on my 4.0L ranger, i think it should sound pretty good, anybody have any experience with a thrush turbo, my dad had one on his toyota but of course that was a 2.4i and sounded crappy with whatever pipe was on it, any advice or opinions?

I have one on right now. I've only had it for like 650 miles and it already sounds like something is rattling inside it. I'm switching to an aero turbine. Their pretty spendy but ive heard good things about them on here, especially for the 4.0.

P.S.: pry should have put this in the exhaust section haha

I have similar on my 2.5. My son couldn't believe it was a 4-cyl because it sounded throatier.

I wish i could say that on my 2.3. You can barely hear it, it's just a little louder than stock at high rpm's

alright, ill have to do a little bit more research on the then but i think im going to go with the turbo, thanks for the input

I have one of these sitting in my garage. If you do do it, post a vid, I wanna see how it sounds on a 4.0.

I have no experiance with thrush mufflers on a 4.0l, but I have a gibson on my 4.0l and really like the sound, I would highly suggest them to anyone looking for a good muffler to put on a 4.0l.

I had a Dynomax Super Turbo on my '97 with a 4.0 (years ago). It sounded ok. I had a tailpipe from a '97 F150 (exit in front of right rear tire) that I used along with it. As obnoxious as this sounds, I later decided to remove the muffler (put a pipe in it's place and used the same side exit tailpipe) since I tested it when I was putting on the muffler to begin with and it didn't sound too bad. I left it like this for a couple years and never regretted it. I sold this Ranger many years ago now and I can't remember for sure, but I think the '97 had four catalytic converters (two for each bank) or at least two inline. I think the catalytic converter arrangement helped to muffle the exhaust, allowing the straight pipe to not sound too crappy.

I've got a thrush turbo and it only rumbles at idle, otherwise sounds only slightly louder than stock. Went to a thrush welded and its pretty throaty.
