throttle sticks NOT the cable?

i have a 1990 ranger 4x4 with the 2.9 and the throttle stuck on me so i put penitrating oil on it and a bungee cord on it so i could get were i was going. that worked well for a few monthes but now the throttle sticks even after frequent oilling and leaving the bungee on. i had the hood open and taped the gas the throttle moved and returned to idle stop but was still revving around 3000 for about 30-45 seconds then droped slowly to about 1500 i tried again with the same result except i shut it off before it idled down to make certain the cable was resting on the idle screw (which it was) i can't think of anything elce it could be, it just hapened while i was driving fine one sec then it stuck around 25-3000 RPM i don't know where elce to look PLEASE HELP!

Have you tried cleaning the IAC valve? Does your idle change when the IAC is disconnected? A friend of mine had similar symtoms, it was a mixture of bad grounds and a couple vacuum leaks. Right now it could generally be a lot of things that are causing your symptoms. First thing I might suggest is inspecting the operation of the throttle body and get it working smoothly again. Fix what you know is broken and go from there. Have you also tried to pull codes yet?

start by cleaning the IAC and pulling codes

Clean the throttle body too. I saw a badly gummed up throttle body on an 86 mustang cause the same problem.
