So all the sudden my 91 Ranger is having issues. I'll be driving it, and in any gear, but especially 2nd and even in neutral, the revs will just drop to nothing and then after awhile shoot back up. It feels like the throttle is sticking, and then getting unstuck. And it's a manual tranny so of corse it's super herky jerky after the throttle finally unsticks since it's slowed down so much. I'll look it over in the morning, but any perliminary thoughts? The only thing I did that might cause a block was do some mudding, hopefully there is just a chunk of mud stuck in my linkage:).
Thanks.

yes, most likely a mechanical issue.

There is an electronic device called the throttle position sensor(TPS)
It will be on the opposite side of the upper intake from where the throttle cable connects.

It is similar to a Volume control or light dimmer, it is a variable resistor.
The computer uses the TPS to tell the position of the throttle, as you open the throttle computer feeds in more gas.
It will show .9volts closed and 4.7volts wide open, approx.
If yours has a dead spot then voltage drops and so would fuel supply
Very easy to test with a volt meter and a couple of sewing pins to pierce the wires.
